Director's Message

Welcome to the Financial Intelligence Unit for Anguilla (“FIU”) website.  As the Head of the FIU, I am delighted to present this website which represents information and sources which are relevant to ensuring Anguilla’s compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorist Financing initiatives.  The vision of the FIU is to ensure, with unwavering integrity, that Anguilla is fully compliant with all Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Countering Financing recommendations and guidelines.

The compliance with international Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorist Financing standards, recommendations and guidelines all have a direct effect on the financial viability of Anguilla’s financial system and its financial institutions.  Compliance ensures that there is increased transparency and enables Anguilla to successfully take action against any illicit use of its financial system and provide protection of financial institutions. The website will therefore provide up to date information from the Office of Financial Action Task Force, The Caribbean Financial Action Task Force, the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) – Government of the United Kingdom and all relevant domestic competent agencies.  I therefore encourage all reporting entities and relevant financial institutions, designated (“DNFPBs) to visit the website periodically.

The FIU functions as a hybrid agency geared towards the analysis of financial intelligence and the investigation of serious financial crimes which have an inherent risk towards money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing.   Our vision statement as outlined, is to detect and combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing and all other financial related crimes in Anguilla and to assist other jurisdictions in achieving their goals of combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.  To achieve our goals, it is absolutely essential that there is an understanding of the risk associated money laundering and terrorist financing, and that there is a culture of cooperation among the respective competent agencies in Anguilla.  The FIU does not stand only as a conduit for the receipt of intelligence but also an information portal to all reporting entities in respect of emerging or new trends and typologies domestically, regionally and internationally relative to inherent or associated risk to the jurisdiction.   It was therefore vital that the FIU commit to this process by making its presence on the world wide web through this website.

We therefore invite you to explore our website and its content and look forward to addressing any concerns, questions or comments you may have.

Sincerely

Horace A. Edwards
